From Desert to Prison

9 Sept 1943

Everyone was very calm today and things proceeded as normal. There was a Service on the field in which we thanked God for Victory and Peace. This was the first authoritative declaration of the Armistice. In the evening we had a concert of 4 bands and about 50 artistes. A Union Jack was displayed and various national songs played including the National Anthem. This lasted from 5pm until about 9pm with a short break for tea.

The Italian officers on check parade shook hands with Wollaston our Section leader.

We learn that the Armistice was signed in Sicily on Sept 3rd.
